Organised by Esperanza and co-created by Cyberport, with the South China Morning Post as the official media partner, the Edventures Global Business Acceleration Summit attracted more than 300 participants worldwide in early November to learn about recent edtech developments and trends.

This informative virtual event was moderated by  Dr Jennifer Chang Wathall, with panellists from the worlds of education, technology and business including Patrick Brothers, Richard Culatta, Kamran Elahian, Elliott Masie, Rebecca A. Fannin, Julian Fisher, Dr Simon Leung and Dr Steven Li. They discussed edtech developments and trends as well as market demands and opportunities for start-ups, from both a global perspective and also with particular regard to the China market.

As part of the Cyberport Venture Capital Forum, the one-day summit also featured pitch presentations by the 10 edtech start-up finalists for the Edventures Global Business Acceleration Fellowship, as well as three Cyberport Rising Star companies.

By facilitating simultaneous interpretations into Cantonese and Mandarin, live polling and a question-and-answer process, SCMP’s Morning Studio events team delivered a successful virtual event. Services also included pre-event support with online platforms and software, providing online training to speakers, creating guidelines and tips for using the software, preparing on-screen hold slides with multimedia content, and offering post-event support such as video recordings, transcripts of panel sessions, poll results and other event reports.

The events team also overcame technical challenges that a virtual event can present, by employing an online communications platform for the pitch presentations that provided the judges with  detailed information of each finalists and their pitching materials, and allowed the judges to mark their scores and give rankings in real time. Judges were also able to interact with finalists via a messaging system to learn more about the start-ups and their ideas.

Another hi-tech solution used during the event allowed attendees to vote in live polls for the “Audience Favourite” in the fellowship competition. The awards were also announced live, with the winning start-ups  congratulated by the enthusiastic online audience to bring this successful event to a close.
