Upgraded annual event features sustainability messaging and enhanced entertainment attracting triple historical attendance

The Tong Chong Street Market is an annual Sunday event series held with the objective of building district loyalty for Tong Chong Street and associated areas, while providing a branded best-in-town street market experience for culinary lovers.

This year, the event runs from November 2018 until February 2019, and features over 100 food vendors across 40 stalls, offering a wide range from fresh farmers’ produce to creative dishes, cooking tips, and the trendiest food and beverage items. Homegrown restaurants and cafes are also preparing dishes, exclusively for the Tong Chong Street Market.

Sustainability is a key value of the Market, and visitors are encouraged to practise sustainability with rented coffee cups and tableware. Ambassadors from the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) are also participating in the Market to raise awareness for recycling and a reduction in use of disposable items. Visitors can also participate in various free workshops.

For 2018, additional entertainment elements have been added, including musical performances by young buskers and live bands, plus arcade game machines inside a real double decker bus. Visitors can also enjoy playing SkeeBall and Connect Four nearby.

This is the sixth year in which Swire Properties is continuing to team up with SCMP Marketing Solutions to organise the Tong Chong Street Market, leveraging SCMP’s professional management experience with large-scale events. The SCMP team is handling pre-event coordination, on-site management, vendor management, as well as liaison with vendors and other parties, including co-presenter Honestly Green and related contractors and government departments.

The Market has attracted a record high attendance this year, with an average footfall of 9,000, much higher than the average of 3,000 visitors from previous years.
