Macao teams up with Morning Studio for first mega international arts and cultural event
South China Morning Post’s Morning Studio was chosen by Macao Government Tourism Office as one of its team of regional and international media partners to create a content campaign for Art Macao 2019 – its first ever five-month-long mega international arts and cultural event.
The spectacular festival of visual arts exhibitions, outdoor installations, fairs and performances at museums, historical sites, hotels and resort areas, featuring hundreds of Chinese and international artists, forms part of this year’s celebrations marking the 20th anniversary of Macao’s handover and the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.
The Morning Studio team welcomed the challenge of having to quickly create the dynamic, time-sensitive campaign content channel, Uncover Art Macao, which was able to incorporate the huge scale and complexity of the festival, featuring a vast number of different events.
The aim of the channel was to capture the artistic side of Macao – set against the backdrop of its colourful, Portuguese colonial past and the continuous influence of its Chinese heritage – through engaging digital and social content that touched on things such as arts and cultural events and the city’s renowned gastronomy.
Morning Studio’s six-episode multimedia series featured an interactive map, offering a new way of visualising Macao as a thriving, regional arts and cultural hub.
The team also created shorter-form content, adapted from the series, to cater to audiences across all social media platforms.
The channel has proved highly successful – with its content generating huge interest both locally and around the world, particularly in North America.
The campaign is the latest example of how the team is able to combine the Post’s more than 100 years of expertise in storytelling with the latest multimedia techniques to create engaging content in multiple formats.
