SCMP ignites interest for StartmeupHK Festival 2018

Long-form storytelling helps InvestHK engage international audience awareness and attendance for tech innovation event
Sponsored by a variety of backers, including HKSAR promotion arm InvestHK, StartmeupHK Festival 2018 is a weeklong gathering of technology innovators, global investors and other industry shakers and movers, with the goal of finding synergy to help each other navigate the future.
InvestHK sought assistance from SCMP Advertising & Marketing Solutions to promote the event and generate international interest and attendance.
With one-stop responsibility for content creation, design production and content distribution, the SCMP team proposed two “episodes” to the campaign "Finding Your Spark in HK". The first, launched before the event, opens with a story about Hong Kong’s unique proposition as Asia’s gateway and home to a thriving startup ecosystem, then subsequently drives specific awareness for StartmeupHK Festival 2018. The follow-up episode would present post-event highlights.
A key challenge to the SCMP team was the sheer quantity of information needed to be presented. With multiple facts spanning a range of technology sectors—including FinTech, HealthTech, Smart Cities, Internet of Things, retail and others — the SCMP team had to devise a content format that could leverage SCMP’s strong audience reach.
SCMP’s content experts decided to create long-form stories with infographics and, launching soon as part of the campaign, motiongraphic videos to enhance audience engagement. Tailor-made banners on scmp.com and SCMP’s Facebook page draw further traffic.
