SCMP Snags Two Golds, One Silver and Two Bronze Awards at the 9th Asia Digital Media Awards
Results of the 9th Asia Digital Media Awards were announced during Digital Media Asia 2018 from November 7 to 9. The three-day event comprising a conference, masterclasses, a technology and services expo and the Awards, all to provide delegates the opportunity to learn from case studies, and take away best practices and knowledge for editorial and strategic decision-making in today’s global media landscape.
The Asian Digital Media Awards 2018 are jointly presented by WAN-IFRA and Google to recognise publishers which have adopted digital media and mobile strategies as part of their product offering to meet the changes in how people consume news and information today.
WAN-IFRA, the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers, protects the rights of journalists and publishers worldwide to operate free media, and provides members with professional services to help their businesses prosper in a digital world.
Various SCMP leaders took part in the conference. CEO Gary Liu and deputy executive editor Zuraidah Ibrahim covered SCMP’s digital transformation journey, while technology editor Kong Ho Chua, and Abacus’ executive producer Ravi Hiranand shared their insights as authors of the China Internet Report. Branded content director Michala Sabnani moderated a forum on trends in branded media marketing, while head of data Korey Lee held a training session on leveraging business intelligence data, in addition to moderating another forum on building blockchain-based businesses.
SCMP was among the Award winners, winning Gold for projects “ Getting to grips with North Korea in 15 graphics” in “Best Data Visualisation” and “Abacus” in “Best Digital News Start-up”, Silver for “Inkstone” in “Best Digital News Start-up,” as well as two Bronze awards for “Extreme poverty in China: a family portrait of the Ice Boy” in “Best Use of Online Video” and “The China Ship” in “Best Data Visualisation” categories.
